Stay & Eat

Is a page of members' recommendations — places where they have enjoyed staying, and places where they have had good vegetarian/vegan meals.

Please contact us with your favourites. Give us a web site if they have one, if not, address, phone etc. Accommodation should be predominately vegetarian/vegan or at least very supportive of the lifestyle. Restaurants and cafes should have a mainly vegetarian/vegan menu.

To get the ball rolling, Geoff & Julia have listed their choices, though some venues have not been visited for some time. We have checked however, and all are still in business!

Talsarnau (near Harlech)

Tremeifion Vegetarian hotel.
A wonderful vegetarian and vegan hotel close to the Italianate village of Portmeirion. We stayed here for our honeymoon, (many) years ago. New owners now (and a good bit more expensive), but no doubt still a great place to relax. Stunning views and great walks from the door.

WILTSHIRE
Salisbury

Anokaa Indian Restaurant
With starters like pan fried potato cakes with spinach, and mains such as kasuri aloo – (scooped out local baby potatoes filled with red kidney beans and plantain drizzled with a makhani sauce of fenugreek and cream of coconut, served with rice filled baby peppers and parsnip crisps); you know this is Indian food with a difference.
Our restaurant of choice when staying with family in Salisbury. (Booking advised).

YORKSHIRE
Otley

The Cheerful Chilli
A good-value vegetarian café & restaurant, encountered while walking on The Chevin, a ridge with fine views that lies to the south of Otley, just north of Leeds-Bradford Airport. A café during the day, it transforms into a restaurant in the evening. Worth seeking out if in the area.
